Flame Retardants

Delay Ignition, Reduce Heat Release Rate & Slow the Spread of Flames

Our water-based, ready-to-use, high solids dispersions treat 100% of the panel substrate – not just the surface. Coupled with technical expertise and application assistance, PSG has got you covered.

New Patented CHAR FR Flame Retardants – Designed to Slow the Propagation of Fires

PSG products are formulated colloidal dispersions that can be applied in situ to composite panels. The entire substrate including the edges are treated.

The fine particle size of PSG’s colloidal dispersions provides uniform and complete panel coverage. Get the complete turnkey solution by adding our automated control system.

Overview

SASCO® CHAR FR-534 is a fire-retardant additive for engineered wood/composite panel products. Supplied as a high solids content colloidal fluid, SASCO® CHAR FR-534 can be spray applied onto wood fibers, chips, or strands near the blending/refiner stage.

SASCO® CHAR FR-564 is covered by the United States Patent No. US 11,015,081.

Application

  • Typical active basis application dosage is about 15% by weight of the total wood panel being produced. SASCO® CHAR FR-534 is best administered using positive displacement pumps such as rotary lobe pumps, progressive cavity pumps, or air-diaphragm pumps. Upon sitting undisturbed for extended periods, the colloidal dispersion forms a thixotropic gel; however, low-shear remixing will return the product to its original viscosity.
  • Laboratory evaluations are recommended to ensure proper application levels and compatibility with other chemicals and substrates.
