More than a Surface Process Aid

  • The PSG Advantage
  • Partnering with PSG

An anti-tack is more than a barrier coating or surface process aid. In fact, it may potentially impact the compound’s processibility and the performance of the final part. Therefore, it should be selected as carefully as any other material in the formulation. The key to a superior anti-tack is coating efficiency: the dispersion produced must be stable, non-foaming, and non-settling. It needs to impart a thin, uniform and effective coating that dries fast, resists dusting and prevents compound sticking. Most importantly, it must not have any detrimental effects on the final part. Partnering with PSG will ensure you have selected the right anti-tack that allows you to efficiently produce your product.
  • Beyond Chemistry
  • Going Beyond Chemistry – What Makes PolyCoat® Best-in-Class?

    • PSG’s PolyCoat® product range leads the Market offerings by having high solids levels of completely dispersed ultrafine coating chemicals (typically, 35%–52% solids).
    • Product Homogeneity – Finer dispersed particle size leads to a more uniform coating, lower dilution concentrations, and lower overall usage.
    • PolyCoat® Products provide a unique opportunity for customers to reduce workplace exposure limits to regulated Respirable Particles.
    • Flexibility – Compatible with cold water dilution, reduces costs.
  • Solids Optimization
  • Solids Level Optimization

Applying a consistent, uniform, anti-tack coating at an optimal active solids use level is the key to balancing price and performance.

    • Solids level must be determined for each compound.
    • When determining an elastomer’s optimal active solids level, users must consider polymer type, processing techniques, storage conditions, and equipment.
    • Too high of an active solids use level could lead to drying issues, cold feed extruder slippage, blistering, staining, foreign material, and part rejections.
    • Insufficient active solids will result in stuck stock and increased costs due to rubber reprocessing.
  • Complete Solution

Industry-Leading Performance

Anti-Tack coatings are used to prevent uncured elastomeric compounds/articles from sticking by creating a partitioning barrier on the external layers of the compound/article. The products are supplied to the rubber industry in the form of water-based liquid dispersions, slurry dispersions, or ready-to-dilute dry powders.

Typical anti-tack dilution usage levels range from 2-3% for tire applications and 3-5% for non-tire applications. Coating efficiency is measured by a product’s Depletion Rate or Pick-Up Rate. The lower the depletion rate, the more efficient the anti-tack.

PSG partners with you and your team by reviewing your process and matching a product from our product line that meets the requirements of your compound and final product. Coupling this with our modern dilution equipment maximizes efficiencies and expands your success.

Overview

Pellet Lube F-3 is used by compounders on a wide variety of compounds in slab, strip, and pellet form. Pelletized stock is inherently more difficult to prevent rubber-to-rubber sticking. Pellets have an increased rubber surface area and are prone to contact rubbing as the coated pellets flow through the manufacturing process.

When product is rubbed off the pellet, it exposes areas on the pellet that can stick and contributes to the creation of high levels of dust in the process area. Pellet Lube F-3’s durable mineral-filled coating combats coating loss due to pellet rubbing thus maintaining the anti-tack properties of the coating while reducing the creation of dust.

Typical Properties
Odor & Appearance:Mild, Tan Slurry

Average Solids (%):53
Concentrate Stability:Stable

Applications

  • A versatile, environmentally-friendly product that is easy to disperse and has low foaming.
  • The anti-tack coating has proven to be durable on compounds in slab, strip, and pellet form.
  • Pellet Lube F-3’s visible coating dries fast and resists back-side wiping that can occur when slab or strip stock is indexed for the batch-off.
  • The mineral-filled component of the coating provides a physical barrier that helps prevent rubber-to-rubber-sticking.
  • As with any mineral-filled anti-tack, the coated compound should be physically mixed during down-stream processing.
  • The coating imparted by Pellet Lube F-3 has not demonstrated any detrimental effects on the compound’s physical properties.
