Polymer Solutions Group Expands Portfolio of Specialty Chemicals for the Engineered Wood Industry with Acquisition of PUR Polymerics

ACWORTH, GEORGIA (April 15, 2019) — Polymer Solutions Group (“PSG”), a leading manufacturer of specialty polymers and additives, today announced it has acquired PUR Polymerics line of engineered wood release agents.

PUR Polymerics is based in Cambridge, Ontario, and provides specialty release agents for the Particle Board, Fiberboard, and Engineered Wood markets. “Our concentrated approach allows us to be leaders in these applications. We do a few things very well,” said Tom Mason, President of PUR Polymerics.

“With PUR Polymerics’ focused approach in the market, their product line is an excellent addition for us to accelerate growth within our PSG Functional Materials division,” said Mike Ivany, PSG’s President and Chief Executive Officer, “it provides key technologies we can quickly utilize to advance our TechKote® product line.”

Tom Mason will continue on as an agent for PSG Functional Materials (“PSG-FM”) in support of both the acquired products and the rest of PSG-FM’s wood release products for the engineered wood market. Effective immediately, the newly acquired products from PUR Polymerics will be integrated into the PSG-FM division and sold under PSG’s existing brand name, TechKote®. As a technical leader in the research, development and manufacturing of specialty chemicals, PSG is well positioned to meet the production, quality and service demands of the growing engineered wood market.

Rikki Lamba, Managing Director of Additives at PSG discusses the latest developments in additives and dispersions that help tire manufacturers overcome their biggest silica challenges for the July issue of Tire Technology International.

“Everybody is using higher silica loadings,” says Lamba, “but they struggle to cost-effectively mix and process it. SureMix CO2 reduces the viscosity of a 100phr silica compound to that of an 80phr compound. Furthermore rolling resistence also approaches that of an 80phr compound. Therefore one can achieve the wet-rip benefits without the associated viscosity, processing, and rolling-resistance penalties of higher silica loading.”
